açaí for health, beauty, and the rainforest
With all the press that açaí is in these days, I am surprised that so few know what it is. I hope to help spread the word, because the little purple berries are antioxidant powerhouses offering amazing benefits for the human body.
An Amazing Health Food
Açaí has too many benefits for health are ignored. The pulp is purple and be further investigated for their high level of phytochemicals, flavonoids and phytosterols. The phytosterols in açaí are beneficial for lowering cholesterol. A high level of antioxidant superoxide add the benefits, not to mention the 19 amino acids. The antioxidant levels of the mother as seed be investigated for use as a preservative for extending the shelf life of foods.
I know enough of all these crazy words ... what does this translate? Basically, this is a food with a higher antioxidant level than pomegranate or blueberries, high fiber, low glycemic index (will not spike insulin levels) and fights against cancer cells with a vengeance in the petri dish. All these above-mentioned chemicals plant to strengthen the immune system, fight inflammation (which makes it an excellent pain management program), and lower cholesterol. Açaí is a beauty to drink, and made it to number one by Dr. Nicholas Perricone's anti-aging foods list. It is also known to the sexual power: O
I tried açaí before I knew of the health benefits. I have it along with all the frozen smoothie packs in my local Whole Foods Market. It has a flavor that I had not experienced before, that I really admire, though I less of a sweet tooth than most people.
OK, so how does it taste?
The flavor is a perfect mix of chocolate and bland blueberries. There have been some hints of sweet blackberries, I think, because many of the same phyto-compounds. Açaí not on the top fruity taste and is frankly kind of bland without any sweeteners. It often comes with added cane sugar or agave, a natural sweetener with a low index glycmeic. Some formulas contain guarana for energy, which I think is a slight bitter edge, but it is still in the pleasant area. Note that açaí drinks often are not so similar to everything you've seen before. Pure cellulose is blackish purple, and the mixtures with sweeteners and guarana, a slight, white purpleness a haze of oil on top. Do not let my honest descriptions do you think of the experiment, it is a refreshing change of taste.
If you decide you hate the taste, you can still have the health benefits of açaí through the purchase of dried, powdered version as a supplement pill, make sure that after the Freeze-dried pulp, everything else was dried with chemicals and heat, to destroy the connections are the stuff for the first and foremost!
There are several campsites sale of açaí in the States now, and my appreciation for all of them. You only need to a healthy diet or business in one of the chains Whole Foods to find. Trader Joe's is another option, and some companies sell directly over the network. A brand called Sambazon comes from California, and they do the cool smoothie packs. You can use the pure pulp, or a mixture. I am sure that other companies have also Smoothie Packs. The company from the eastern United States, Brazil, taste, makes this amazing sorbet which can be used in smoothies or devoured right out of the tub. This product has excellent flavor for those that are more mainstream foods. You can find this form of açaí fruit in the frozen section of the store. Zola açaí the grid and sold in the stores, their product is unique in that it pasteurizeed Flash and does not need refrigeration. A friend of mine, to me the research flash pasteurization is not enough heat to the long-term integrity of açaí. It is a brand that is a tight, clear juice tastes terrible that - not worth the money in my opinion, and you lose the benefits of fiber. I'm sure there are a multitude of many other açaí products I mentioned above, I have tried.
After his many forms of açaí, I buy the pure açaí pulp now, they run about $ 4.99 for 4 pack, up to 8 servings. I sweeten with agave nectar, there's the pulp a pleasant taste. Pure cellulose is just that - a lot of pulp, similar to drink freshly squeezed orange juice ... They feel the fibers as you drink. Agave nectar is in Mexico for the same yucca plant for the production of tequila.
Agave has a lower glycemic index than most carbohydrates and is a natural flavor enhancer. Here you can find the nectar in the sweetener in the course Whole Foods or health food stores.
The Berry at Home
Açaí is the fruit of a species of palm trees called Euterpe oleracea, or açaí palm. These beautiful trees with their graceful, slender trunks are native to Brazil, Peru, and other areas of South America. This is the same kind of palm trees are harvested for heart of palm shell, which is regarded as a delicacy, but at the expense of the rainforest, as the small quantity of such trees have crashed to consider his offer tips.
The açaí Berry looks similar to a very long blueberry, only slightly larger. There is very little fruit, since most of Berry (80%) consists of a large, such as seed parent. It is the skin and thin layer of pulp, the edible, and it takes many bushels to a small range of açaí. The berries spoil quickly once picked, so they are processed, close to their origin.
Açaí Add to your wellness routine is not only good for you, for the rainforest and its peoples as well. The growing demand for açaí means jobs and capital for the people, and açaí palm trees for destruction by logging and harvesting of palm hearts are now preserved and appreciated. Açaí is one of the cheapest food you consume, but the benefits for your health, beauty, your fellow human beings and the planet far outweigh the costs. Enjoy!
