dental professionals from the American Academy of Periodontology (AAP), seven common misconceptions associated with the oral health:

(1) The primary reason for the brush to remove food debris. (daily brushing and flossing also minimize the formation of plaque that, over time, can irritate the gums)

(2) bleeding gums are normal. (they should be seen as warning signs of gum disease)

(3) Oral health does not affect general health. (when the gums are infected, bacterial by-products can enter the bloodstream and travel to major organs trigger other problems such as heart disease)

(4) Bad breath is caused by a lack of oral hygiene. (some people forget to brush your tongue, where the bulk of the bad breath bacteria live)

(5) Cavities are the number one cause of tooth loss. (it is actually cavities and gum disease combined)

(6) Pregnant women should skip professional dental. (the wife of periodontal health can affect the unborn child's health)

(7) Stress does not cause any problems in the mouth. (high degree of personal stress and poor coping skills, the chances of developing gum disease)

After WebMDS and the Cleveland Clinic Department of Dentistry, there are nine steps you can take to maintain a good oral health. As you can see, there is more to oral health than just brushing and flossing. Here are the steps to be taken into account:

1. Understand your own oral health needs. (Cancer treatments, pregnancy, cardiovascular disease, diabetes and dental prostheses / braces, all to your oral health, let your dentist know if these conditions exist)

2. Develop, then follow a daily oral health routine. (depending on what your dentist will discuss with you and develop a daily oral health routine that works for you)

3. Use fluoride. (important because it strengthens developing teeth in children and prevents tooth decay in children and adults)

4. Brush and floss daily. (while you have the brush in the morning and before bedtime, you will also need to floss once a day, around the plaque)

5. Eating a balanced diet and limit snacking. (it is especially important to limit your intake of sugar and starch, which can cause acid in the mouth that lead to the development of caries, brushing teeth or chew sugarless chewing gum can help then, caries)

6. If you have tobacco, quit. (increases the risk for oral cancer as well as other general health)

7. Check your mouth regularly. (if you have something unusual in your mouth, like spots, cuts, swelling or on the gums / tongue / inside cheeks and tooth chipping / cracking / discoloration, then see your dentist immediately)

8. Visit your dentist regularly. (the standard recommendation is twice a year for checkups and cleanings)

9. Developing a partnership with the dentist. (Maintaining an open communication with your dentist and see that you are responsible for their own oral health)
