Kwanza is an African American holiday, begins on December 26 and ends on 31 December. It is based on West African principles of self in relation to family and community. Although Kwanzaa is in relation to individual and social constructs can also serve as a powerful tool for promoting medical and health-wellness and community health workers.

The six principles of Kwanza are directly applicable to the physician and health care workers' welfare and health:

n Umoja Unit: Family and community support for your well-being and the practice of medicine.

n Kujichagulia Self-Determination: Define your call, create and live.

n Ujima Collective Work and Responsibility: Advocate for our own and the health of your patients.

n Nia Purpose: Pool doctor means to maintain and develop the institutions, practices, groups and health plans to promote health and wellbeing of all people.

n Kuumba Creativity: To do as much as you can in order to promote innovative wellness in themselves and their community.

n Imani Faith: conservation and respect your intellectual roots and the linkage of spirit, soul and body.

Although Kwanza is based on West-African principles of this philosophy is universal. The inclusion of these principles promotes well-being and improvement compassion fatigue is not only doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals. Remembrance and recognition of Kwanza dimensions of health and life of each are all on the road to health, and personal and professional happiness and success. A person is only as healthy and successful as his / her family, community, nation and the world.
