So how much sleep is" enough "?
It is a theme to a heated discussion between the experts to sleep, let alone a group of people who are tied to a) someone who swears they are good with four hours per night and b) the Rip Van beach snails, which can not function on less than 10 hours after the shut eye.
The latest research suggests that these two extremes could have a problem - too little or too much sleep could be bad for your health and your chances of living a long life.
So who are the light sleeper? Well, in our times of Madonna, Jay Leno and Donald Trump
Reportedly not very nice, with four hours per night, continues a long tradition, from the likes of inventor Thomas Edison and the legendary British Prime Minister Winston Churchill.
However - and this is a big however - Edison and Churchill admitted that a long daytime naps. Who knows, maybe Madonna naps in the studio between takes!
At the other end of the scale, renowned scientist Albert Einstein, who argued, need at least 10 hours of sleep per night!
While "eight hours a night has long been known as the ideal sleep, medical research suggests that seven hours, the new standards. Studies in different countries suggest that people who sleep too little (less than six hours per night ), or too much (more than eight hours) to live shorter lives than those between.
Well, the thought of only four or five hours of decent rest of the night is just a dream for many people, the misery of insomnia, for eight hours. And millions seem to work well, with five or six hours. Indeed, it is important not to get hung up on the quantity of sleep, but the all-important quality of sleep experience.
That is, a fascinating six-year study by obesity researchers at Laval University in Quebec
City, Canada found that people who sleep five to six hours per night, and those who for nine or 10 hours will have more weight than those sleeping for seven to eight hours. The researchers monitored 276 adults aged between 21 and 64
Interesting huh?
"" Everything we have seen in recent years on this subject says
Yes, if you are seven to eight hours of sleep at night, you have the
best chance of not gaining weight and maintaining your own weight, "said
Donna Arand, an experimental psychologist with the Sleep Disorders Center at
Kettering Hospital in Dayton, Ohio.
"" And if you look at much less than that or a lot more than that, you
It hurt and it will be a tough fight. ""
Exactly why the short and long sleepers increased, it is not known, but researchers believe that sleep deprivation disrupts the production of hormones that regulate appetite. Too little sleep and the body produces more of the "hunger hormone" "That makes you want to eat .. sleep too much? Scientists believe that you really do not always sleep quality - this is the reason why you are so long in bed. The effect is the same - your body produces too much of the hunger hormone.
Forgive the pun, but the study adds weight to the importance of overcoming the problems, so you sleep proper rest every night. And, as I point out in my self-help Banish insomnia, requires a change of lifestyle.
Reduce your stress, exercise and eat a balanced diet, and you have begun the journey to sleep every night.
